Death

Ashe — who was facing trial for tax fraud — died June 22, 2016 in his house in Westchester County. The UN said he’d had a heart attack. But the local Dobbs Ferry police said Thursday that his throat had been crushed, presumably by a barbell he dropped while pumping iron.[1]

Connection to Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton

Ashe was due in court Monday with his Chinese businessman co-defendant [[Ng Lap Seng]], who is charged with smuggling $4.5 million into the US since 2013 and lying that it was to buy art and casino chips.

Ng was identified in a 1998 Senate report as the source of hundreds of thousands of dollars illegally funneled through an Arkansas restaurant owner, Charlie Trie, to the Democratic National Committee during the Clinton administration. (Ng was not charged with any crime.)

Ng and Trie had visited the White House several times for Democratic fund-raising events and were photographed with then-President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Clinton.

One source told me, “During the trial, the prosecutors would have linked Ashe to the Clinton bagman Ng. It would have been very embarrassing. His death was conveniently timed.”

24June2016 - Ashe died in weightlifting accident
A medical examiner has confirmed that the death of Dr John Ashe, the former Antigua & Barbuda Ambassador to the United Nations, was an accident caused by a neck trauma he suffered while lifting a barbell in his home.

This contradicted earlier reports that he died of a heart attack.

The medical examiner’s conclusion came a day after police responded to medical emergency call at Ashe’s residence in Dobbs Ferry, New York, where he was pronounced dead.

According to the international newswire Reuters, an official from Westchester County Office said Ashe, 61, died on Wednesday afternoon due to “traumatic asphyxia”.

Traumatic asphyxia, is a medical emergency caused by an intense compression of the thoracic cavity, causing venous black-flow from the right side of the heart into the veins of the neck and the brain.

Current UN General Assembly President Mogens Lykketoft, who confirmed Ashe’s death on Wednesday, said in a statement, “Mr Ashe was for many years a hard-working and popular member of the diplomatic corps in New York and the United Nations. I know his death will come as sad news to the many professional friends and colleagues he made during his time here.”

Ashe’s attorney Jeremy Schneider also noted, “It’s a tragic loss for his family and the community.”

The former diplomat served as president of the 193-nation assembly from September 2013 to September 2014. He was arrested in October and accused of taking $1.3 million in bribes from Chinese businessmen. Seven people have been charged to date, three of whom have pleaded guilty.

At the time of his death, Ashe had only been charged with tax fraud, to which he had pleaded not guilty, amid questions about whether diplomatic immunity might preclude any bribery charges.

Ashe held a doctorate in bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania.

He joined the Foreign Service in 1989 and was awarded the Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George by Queen Elizabeth II in 2007 for his global diplomatic service, according to his UN biography.

As a diplomat, he was heavily involved in sustainable development issues, taking leadership roles in some of the major UN environmental agreements.

Meantime, residents on island have reacted with sadness to the death of the former diplomat described as a “demonstrated patriot, fun-loving and an extraordinary individual who has served his nation well”.

26June2016 - Disgraced ex-UN official’s death ‘conveniently timed’
The death by barbell of disgraced UN official John Ashe could become a bigger obsession for conspiracy theorists than Vince Foster’s 1993 suicide.

Ashe — who was facing trial for tax fraud — died Wednesday afternoon in his house in Westchester County. The UN said he’d had a heart attack. But the local Dobbs Ferry police said Thursday that his throat had been crushed, presumably by a barbell he dropped while pumping iron.

Ashe’s lawyer Jeremy Schneider told me he is sure Ashe’s death was an accident. “There is not one iota of evidence that it was homicide. This is nothing at all like Vince Foster.”

Police in Dobbs Ferry village are keeping the investigation open pending an autopsy by the Westchester medical examiner.
